Cowboy Birthday Cake

A cowboy birthday cake is rather simple to make one. There are many different types of designs for this kind of cake. Some examples include cowboy hat birthday cake and the cowboy boot cake. They can be made with some simple steps or using a recipe.

A cowboy themed birthday party would not be complete without a cowboy cake which is quite easy to make. There are many different types of designs and patterns for a cowboy birthday cake. One of them is the hat birthday cake. The hat’s brim, a giant chocolate chip cookie, forms the base of the cake which is a simple two-layer round cake. Icing unites the image. Chocolate makes the villain’s version while vanilla frosting makes a hero’s hat.

The cowboy hat can be made by following some simple steps. First of all, you need to preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit while you cut a piece of parchment paper to fit on top of the round pizza stone or pan. This will limit the spread of the cookie dough while it cooks and create a round brim for your cowboy hat cake. Roll the cookie dough out on top of the parchment paper and cook for about 15-18 minutes or until the cookie is lightly browned on top. Remove the cookie from the oven and allow it to cool. The parchment paper makes it easy to get the cookie off of the pan when you are ready to build the cake.

Then, spray shortening on both of the round cake pans. Mix the cake according to the directions on the box. First combine the shortening and the sugar. Then beat in the eggs. Finally add the dry mix. Pour half of the batter into each pan. Bake. When the cake is done you will be able to insert a knife or toothpick into the center and when you pull it straight out, it will be clean. If cake sticks to the toothpick, it needs to bake for a few more minutes. Let the cake sit in the pans for about 10 minutes after removing them from the oven. Then turn them out onto a cooling rack. Let the layers totally cool before proceeding to the next step.

Transfer the cookie to the foil covered cardboard by placing the cardboard on top of the cookie. Invert the cookie so that the cardboard goes to the bottom of the pile. Then carefully peel off the parchment paper. Spread a thin layer of frosting on the bottom of one layer of the cake. Place this layer, frosting down on top of the center of the cookie. Spread more frosting on the top of this layer before placing the other layer on top. Frost the cowboy hat cake with a generous amount of frosting. Finish the cake by pushing licorice strings into the frosting where the brim meets the hat to make a black hat band that goes around the circumference of the hat. Top the hat with the proper number of birthday cake candles.

Besides a cowboy hat cake, you can also make a cowboy boot cake which is rather easy to make as well. You can follow some simple and straight forward steps to build the cake. You can bake your cake as the recipe or boxed mix directs. Allow the cake to cool completely. Run a knife along the edges of the cake pan and turn your cake upside down on a large cutting board. Use a food-coloring pen to draw a cowboy boot or print a cowboy boot shape on paper and cut it out as a template. Cut the shape out on the cake with a knife and discard the rest (or save for treats or bread pudding). Then, carefully transfer the boot to a heavy piece of cardboard covered with tin foil. If the cake breaks, just “glue” it back together with frosting. Use your favorite cowboy boot (or a picture of one) as a guide for your decoration. Frost the cake with the primary color of the boot, and then use your pastry bag to pipe in details like stitching or decoration. You could also use candies or marzipan for decoration.
